About us.

Amanda J Weate B.Ed.(Hons.)M.N.A.T.D.

I began dancing at 3 years of age and performed across the United Kingdom from the age of 5 as a junior performer, and later as a professional.

At 17 I passed my first teaching examination with the ‘National Association of Teachers of Dancing’ in Ballet with Distinction. In the following year, I achieved Distinction in Modern Stage dancing. At 19, I completed my Associate teaching qualifications gaining Distinction in National Tap dancing.

I achieved my childhood ambition, establishing ‘The Grove School of Dance’ in January 1988 at Hazel Grove Civic Hall where we are located today.

To add to my teaching qualifications I entered Manchester Metropolitan University as a Mature Student in 1994 and graduated as a Primary School Teacher in 1998 with a Bachelor of Education Honours Degree 2:1, specialising in Drama.

In the year 2000 I furthered my dancing teaching qualifications and gained my Membership qualification. As well as choreographing for the school, I also choreograph Musical Shows. I won Best Choreographer in 2006 for the show, “42nd Street” performed in Manchester by the East Cheshires Musical Theatre Company.

Since establishing the school, pupils have attained excellent examination results. I have staged many innovative and successful school shows at the Peter Barkworth Theatre, Stockport and other professional venues both here and abroad.

In a constant strive to give children new stage experiences school pupils have entered many dancing festivals. These experiences are invaluable, not for the accolades they might bring, but for development of confidence and character.

In addition, the school has been involved in casting for television and online work and pupils have performed in promotional films, advertisements & commercials. We are OFQUAL recognised so any examinations can be used for a students Personal Learning Record as long as they know their ULN.

The Team

Louise began dancing with the school when she was only three, following living and studying in India she has returned and is a registered lifeguard and qualified in Performing Arts-Production-Media Hair and Makeup. Hannah has trained with me since the age of four. She left and lived and trained in Australia for a few years, before returning to the school. Martha has also been trained by me, as a performer since the age of four, and most recently, as a teacher. She has enjoyed principal performances in various roles in Manchester. Cerys has also enjoyed training with me since an early age and enjoys being part of the team.

We believe keeping up with modern styles and theories is important so we attend various conferences in order to keep up to date. A masterclass being taken by an expert trained in New York in Popping and Locking was interesting.  The retired Fosse performer who performed all over the world dancing in his unique style was both challenging but exciting. We also take extra training in Spain each year, which is informative and enjoyable.

The team have passed their professional teaching qualifications. We all have regularly updated C.R.B checks. There is always a qualified first aider in attendance. Thanks go to the managers of the Civic Hall for allowing us to train in the fully equipped studio.
